Online Notary Services

Can't attend in person?

Most documents can now be notarized ("commissioned") online in Canada.

Note that online service is not available for:

(A) Wills,

(B) Powers of Attorney for general use (but Transactional Powers of Attorney, limited to specific matters like getting documents or selling property out-of-country, can be served online),

(C) Real Estate documents, and

(D) Certification of documents as "True Copies" of originals.

What are the steps?

They are actually quite easy.

(1) It is important that you have your document ready, in PDF format.

  • If your document is in paper, it is ideal that you use a scanner to create a PDF version. Alternatively, you can download CamScanner on your phone - an app capable of turning a clear photo of your document into a cropped, good-quality PDF document.

(2) It is also important that you have a piece of government-issued photo identification ready.

(3) Click on the button above to book. When booking, do not change the time zone displayed on the scheduler.

(4) After booking, you will receive an email with your video link.

(5) All you have to do at the time of the video meeting is click on the link to proceed. There is nothing technical to fiddle with, and no download is required. Your notary or commissioner will join the video meeting.

(6) You will present your government-issued photo identification beside your face, so your notary or commissioner can take a clear picture.

(7) Then, you will also take a picture of that same government-issued photo identification and send it to the notary or commissioner, separately from or along with your document(s).

(8) The notary or commissioner will review your identification, and review the requirements of your document(s). Note that documents not created by us are accepted as-is. No legal advice is provided.

(9) The notary or commissioner will load your document(s) onto a signing service and email a signing request to you.

(10) Click on the signing request once you receive it, then click on a video menu button to share your screen so the notary or commissioner can see as you sign the signature shown on your identification. Click the "submit" button after signing. If there is more than one of you, steps (9) and (10) will repeat for each person.

(11) Upon receipt of your signed document(s), the notary or commissioner with notarize or commission your document in PDF format. Note that this "freezes" your document in time. Changes cannot be made by you after this act. Our version of the document cannot differ from yours.

(12) After payment, your notarized or commissioned document(s) will be emailed to you in PDF format.

The above steps usually take less than 30 minutes.
